“Construction of a care hotel at the seaside for ALS patients and their family”

Thanks to a lucky timing, the question of the ALS Liga can be linked to the construction project of a multifunctional care hotel in Middelkerke through the cooperation of some non-profit organizations. An existing design – social holiday home – will be extended with a wing where rooms will be foreseen, adapted to the specific needs of the ALS patient.

The goal of the ALS Liga remains assured: provide the possibility of temporary or permanent residence of patients at the care hotel whereby various care providers offer their services at the hotel. Family of the patients will, if necessary, be able to stay at the holiday home.

The financial picture however is not yet complete. A first track is the application for subsidies to the government. However, this also means a long way. Through a European program around care holiday it might go faster to get money, with the co-financing of the Flemish Government. Of course sponsorship remains an important way to acquire additional funds.

If the European subsidies would be granted, the realization of the project may be possible in 2010.
