ALS Liaison: A New Support Service

All ALS patients (pALS) who register with the ALS League, as well as their families, can turn to the ALS Liaison for support, guidance, and advice to help create the best possible home environment. This service is completely free of charge, with the exception of any travel expenses.

In the first phase, we carry out a thorough assessment of the situation to understand the specific needs of the pALS. To do this, we invite the pALS and their caregivers to an exploratory conversation. To work efficiently, these meetings preferably take place at our headquarters in Leuven. If that’s not feasible for any reason, a home visit can be arranged.

Next, we collaborate with all involved parties—possibly including caregivers, healthcare providers, the GP, and nurses—to explore solutions tailored to the identified needs. Based on this, we draw up a personalized care plan aimed at creating an optimal home situation. The ultimate goal is to ensure that the patient can remain at home for as long as possible, and in the best possible conditions.

We are also available to provide support, guidance, and advice in emergency situations.

The free ALS Liaison service is available to all Dutch-speaking pALS in Flanders and Brussels who are living at home and are no longer fully self-reliant.
This service is funded by the Federal Public Service (FPS) Social Security and carried out in collaboration with all convention hospitals.
