Along with the sun, the pesky little insects often too appear! For persons with ALS, it is not always possible to react properly when bothered by insects. Therefore, we list some home, garden and kitchen tips below to keep these critters away.

Against flies: Take a freezer bag and fill it halfway with cold water. Close the bag tightly with a string and hang it in the doorframe where the flies enter. The flies don’t look straight ahead, but obliquely they have than a widescreen. And that’s how they don’t come inside. It really works!

Wasps: Take a soup bowl filled with cold water containing a few whole cloves. Place this where you don’t want the wasps. It gives off a nice smell and is not harmful.

Chasing away fruit flies: Put down a bowl with 1 dl of vinegar and a drop of liquid soap. The flies will be gone in no time.

Ants: Pesticides are effective but often not good for health. You can get rid of ants by sprinkling some baking powder at the place where they are. In one day, they’re gone for months. When they come back, you repeat the trick once more. Effective and not harmful to health

Mosquitoes: Although mosquitoes are not attracted to normal lighting (as is often thought), UV light does have this effect on them. An insect lamp makes clever use of this. This type of lamp emits a blue UV light. The mosquito responds to it and on its way to the lamp is miserably hit by the built-in electrical high voltage grid. Mosquito lamps are suitable for use indoors. A plug-in lamp is easy to take with you thanks to its small size and is therefore also handy to put in your vacation luggage.

By using a fan, you can keep mosquitoes at distance in an environmentally friendly and very easy way. Mosquitoes are not strong fliers and therefore cannot fly through the large air displacement of a fan. They are attracted to body heat, odours and carbon dioxide. By moving the air through the fan, the mosquito cannot find its prey.
