Bio Simon Mignolet
Simon was born on March 6, 1988 in Sint-Truiden.
Youth:
Simon started playing football at the age of six. He debuted as a field player. His first club was local Brustem VV. Three years later he joined the youth team of KSK Tongeren. One year later he changed for Sint-Truidense VV. They criticized him being too tall, clumsy and slow for a field player. Because of this, he moved to the youth education of Sporting Aalst. There, the youth trainer immediately positioned him in the goal. He was fourteen years old when he first stood between the goalposts. Following that, Sint-Truidense VV expressed interest to get Mignolet back, what happened.
STVV:
Simon began the 2006/2007 season as the third goalkeeper of VV at Sint-Truiden and played two league games during that season. The following season he succeeded in being appointed “main goalkeeper”. His excellent performance in the 2009-2010 season, aroused the interest of several clubs. That same season he won the contest of Belgian Goalkeeper of the Year and agreed on a transfer to Sunderland in June 2010.
Sunderland:
On August 15, 2010 Simon made his debut with Sunderland in the Premier League against Birmingham City. The match ended in a 2-2 draw. In this game he was Man of the Match. Simon kept his nets “clean” for four games in a row. At the end of the 2010-2011 season he received from the fans, players and directors of Sunderland the AFC Young Player of the Year Award.
At the beginning of season 2011/2012 Simon was the first goalkeeper for Sunderland in Liverpool against Liverpool.
Statistics show that during the calendar year 2012 he performed the most saves in the Premier League. Fifteen times he kept the zero. Only Joe Hart did better with seventeen clean sheets.
After the season 2012/2013 ongoing negotiations between Mignolet and Liverpool became public.
Liverpool
On june 25, 2013 Mignolet was transfered to Liverpool. He was the first Belgian player ever that signed at Liverpool. On august 17, 2013 Simon debuted for Liverpool against Stoke City. In the 87nd minute he stopped a penalty of Jonathan Walters. Immediately thereafter he also saved the rebound. Mignolet was awarded man of the match. In september 2013 he was elected 'Player of the month' at Liverpool.
At the end of season 13/14 his club Liverpool ended second in the Premier League, after champion Manchester City. As a result, he was qualified for the Champions League the first time in his carreer.
On may 11, 2015 he won the trophy of Player of the Year of his club Liverpool FC.
